This morning, I sent the male human out to exercise. He seemed to believe it was his choice, which suggests his training is progressing nicely.

Physical fitness is essential to the running of my household. A member of staff must be able to carry supplies, attend promptly when summoned and move my favourite chair into precisely the patch of sunlight I have selected. None of this happens by sitting about looking at a watch that says one has already moved enough.

Having completed his exercise, he spent his free time replacing the palace’s old fluorescent lights with proper LED lighting. The new lamps use less energy and look considerably better. I supervised from a comfortable distance, where I could assess the results without being expected to hold anything. I approve of the savings, provided nobody mistakes them for a reason to reduce the heating.

Meanwhile, my humans appear to have developed a shared dependence on episodes of The Traitors. They now watch perfectly ordinary people accuse one another of secret schemes. I do hope this does not encourage similar behaviour among my own staff. A household cannot function if its members begin lying, plotting or quietly removing one another from the breakfast rota.

I shall remain alert. This evening, the male human said he had no treats in his pocket. I have yet to decide whether that makes him a traitor or merely unprepared.

Yours, Mrs. Cotton 🐱🐾
